Out of the Woods

I took little O to the doctor on Wednesday because the ear infection from the beginning of May seemed to still be around from all the symptoms of not napping, being extra fussy and clinging and rubbing his ears a lot. As it turns out, he tricked me!! In all of my concern for his ears, I forgot to stick my finger in his mouth to feel one last little tooth coming through before the molars arrive. The ear infection fussiness turned into fussiness from a cold which turned into teething fussiness. Ahhhh. Now I can breath!

I am always surprised how tired and worn out I am when we go through a bout of sickness, teething, or a new stage. I feel like I'm already tired because even though I can honestly say Oliver is sleeping "through the night" and sleeping consistently well at night, we still have a 5am feeding. (I think that crying that one out is just around the weekend for us.) Its the missing naps that just put me over the top. I rely on them for a little breather, or a chance to get ahead on my internship or work around the house. Nap time is essential to me. One of my friends has quiet time every day where her school aged kids lay down and just have some rest and independent quiet play. I am totally taking that idea - Thank you Jenni!

Tonight I am looking forward to scrapbooking with a friend. Last week 3 of us got together and I finished 15 pages!! I had lost enthusiasm, but working together with someone makes me really motivated, and as I put the book together, I think about how much we are going to enjoy looking through it and reading about this family adventure when Oliver is older. I'm already forgetting so many details and memories that I'm glad I'm writing them down right now. And it is so fun to remember moments like these...
And as a point of comparison...

Holy cow! How many teeth does he have already that he's almost getting molars? Did both you and Paul get your teeth early? Natalie's still working on her third and fourth teeth! Both Adam and I didn't start getting teeth until we were almost one!

I'm guessing you are refering to me with the quiet times? I have to tell you that both of my kids LOVE reading! I don't know if it has anything to do with me "forcing" them to read/look at books during quiet time, but I'm taking FULL responsibility! :o) I mostly did quiet time for my sanity, and I might have a few days during summer vacation that I will declare quiet time yet again. Sometimes Mama just needs some peace and quiet!

Melissa - he does have all his pre-molar teeth (8 to be exact). I got my teeth fairly early, don't know about Paul.

Jenni - I am talking about you!! Anything that you did with S and C MUST be repeated because they are incredible kids. I watched a movie with Dakota Fanning in it and teared up because she reminds me so much of S and I miss her!

AWWWW Alyssa, we miss you too! I have also thought that Dakota Fanning reminds me of Samantha. Now, if we could be making the same paycheck as Dakota, maybe I'd finally cave and give Samantha an allowance! :o) And, thanks for the compliment on the kids. You always wonder as a parent, "Am I doing this right? What could I be doing different? Am I training my kids right?" The questions go on and on, and it's nice to get some feedback that you're on the right track! Oliver is a doll, and we need to see him in person soon! Any plans to come back for a visit?

They never ceise to amaze us, do they!! One thing leads to another, that leads to another...

Nap time is essential in our house as well. More for Mommy's sake than for theirs. But, for theirs too!

Love the pics! They grow so fast, don't they!!

Nap time or quiet time depends on how your kids are spaced. My 3 are so close in age, but both of the 2 older ones quit napping ALL TOGETHER by 21 months.

They all go to bed at 7:00-7:30 (probably will get a little later this summer).

Anyway, I had always intended to have a "quiet time" so I could have a break, but when the baby is sleeping is also the best time to do school with the older ones, break out puzzles, read to them, play doh...all quiet activities but still require mommy.

I take my "break" during 4;30 movie time. Either a break or cook supper. It's about 50-50 :)
